Hitotsu-Nabe

ひとつ鍋(こしあん)

The origin of the name is an episode of Hokkaido's pioneering spirit

This is a snack named “Hitotsu-nabe” (one pot). It is not a pot dish, but a monaka made by Rokkatei.

Faithful reproduction of the shape of the pot. I have loved this “Hitotsu-Nabe” since I was a little girl, and I have lived my life like “When I think of monaca, I think of one pot! I have lived my life like this. There are many famous and delicious monaka, but when I see this shape, I feel at ease.

But why the shape of the pot?

This is due to an episode that took place around 1881 in the “Banseisha,” a group of people who had aspirations for the development of Hokkaido. At the beginning of the pioneering work, life was very difficult and the food was very bad. When Mr. Masaru Watanabe, who was also a pioneer, lamented that it was like eating the same pot as pigs, Benzo Yoda, who is also known as the founder of Hokkaido’s pioneering history, firmly replied, “At the beginning of cultivating land, it was one pot with pigs,” which is how the monaka “one pot” was born. Sweets with a historical story are really wonderful.
