Hachijyo-jima Salt Chocolate
Japanese notation "八丈島の塩チョコレート"
This chocolate is made with coarse salt, a mineral-rich specialty of Hachijojima.
Hachijo-Jima in the Izu Islands is actually an island in the Tokyo Metropolis, under the administrative division of Hachijo-cho, Tokyo.
The description on the back of the package reads “A sweet that makes your body and mind HAPPY”
The chocolate body wrapped in silver film.
It looks like a standard chocolate plate.
The cross section is a little rough, but still feels like a regular piece of chocolate. It has the aroma of cocoa.
When you take a bite, coarse salt, which is quite present, suddenly appears out of the chocolate. For a moment it feels strange, but soon the salt and chocolate blend together, enhancing the flavor and unique sweetness of the chocolate.
It is a tricky combination, but it is properly harmonious, and I had no idea that the combination of salt and chocolate could be so delicious.
