Japanese notation "ジーマーミ豆腐"
“Zi-Ma-Mi Doufu” is an Okinawan tofu dish that has been eaten since the days of the Ryukyu Dynasty. It is a simple tofu made by crushing raw peanuts, squeezing out the soy milk, and then firming it with only starch. With its sticky texture and refreshing taste, tofu has long been enjoyed by Okinawans not only as a dish but also as a snack. The tofu introduced here is from Hama Shokuhin, which has been in business for 40 years and is famous for being the first store in Okinawa specializing in “Zi-Ma-Mi Doufu”
It is nice that they are sold in cute sized cup units.
The beautiful milky white color and shape is like a pudding, and even though it is tofu, it looks like a sweet.
It is eaten with the accompanying sauce. Hama Foods Zi-Ma-Mi Doufu comes with its own sweet sauce. The sauce is a special blend of sugar, bonito stock, and kelp stock, made from a special grade of soy sauce from Okinawa Prefecture. It is different from ordinary soy sauce.
I put a spoon into the bowl to take a bite, but it was unexpectedly chewy! The elasticity is amazing. And it was delicious! With a simple sweetness, a slight peanut flavor, and a strong tofu taste, I could eat this as much as I wanted.
The chewy texture leaves a lasting impression. One piece may not be enough.
