Iki-no-Shima Kuritsutumi
Japanese notation "壱岐の島 栗包み"
“Iki-no-Shima Kuritsutumi” made by Dohi Confectionery in Iki City, Nagasaki Prefecture, is a sort of sweet bun though, it looks like a steamed bread-like dough. It wraps sweet bean jam mixed with chestnuts. I have yet to visit Iki Island and have an image of tropical island there so that I am a bit surprised and interested to know there is such a Japanese confectionery shop there.
A little chestnut sticker is applied on the package and it looks cute. The confectionary itself is quite large and heavy.
A steamed bread-like sponge cake dough spred over.
It contains koshi-an, strained bean paste and lots of chestnuts kneaded into the paste. It is quite hearty.
It looks like a steamed bread, but it is a firm sponge cake dough. The filling the strained sweet bean paste is so rich. It could be probably made with brown sugar. The chestnuts are also very tasty and satisfying.
