Oga-Dora
Japanese notation "おがどら"
“Oga-Dora” made by Karaku, a confectionery studio in Oga City, Akita Prefecture, is a dorayaki, bean-jam filled pancake, packed with an impressive illustration of a powerful “Namahage”, a giant and fearsome demon, common in many Japanese folk tales, on the package.
The package design is far from the image of Dorayaki. A Namahage’s line, “Are there crying kids?” is written on the package. It is of course so scary for those kids and cannot help crying if Namahage with a frightening look suddenly visits them saying where is crying kids. It sounds it is trying to make kids cry.
The reverse side of the package is printed with blue Namahage. It looks frightening face though, Namahage is Gods messenger. It is truly unique local folk event.
The dough of the dorayaki is baked to a golden brown and has a darker color than other general dorayaki.
The red bean paste inside is a solid color, almost black.
The bean jam color darker than others and looks stronger sweetness though, it is quite light sweet and is delicious. Since the package imacts a lot, it is the best dorayaki for gifts.
