Tea Time at Hachinohe Port

A pie pastry made with squid ink, shaping a squid.

“Hachinohe-kou no Ocha-jikan (Tea Time at Hachinohe Port)” , made by Piero, a confectionery specialty store in Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture, is a pie made with squid ink. Hachinohe Port in Aomori Prefecture is indeed famous as the largest number of catches of squid in Japan, but how we could imagin making a confectionery using squid?

A squid is printed on the package,  and you would never guess it is a pie inside the package from a quick glance.

The pie shapes like a squid.  Unfortunately the squid’s empennage corrupted because the pie was not carried well, but it was a great attention to detail to make the squid shape from the pie dough.

The filling is almond cream mixed with ikasmi, squid ink, and this authentic Western-style confectionary tastes far more delicious than its appearance.  The concept is unique, high quality, and you can feel the local love for Hachinohe how they are proud of such largest catches of squids.
