Oseki-no-Kobune

Luxurious fig fruitcake, even in bite-size pieces

Okaman Honpo, established in 1902 in Ishii-machi, Tokushima Prefecture, makes a unique confectionary called “Oseki-no-Kobune” using figs.  The shape is imaged of a little boat floating on the tenth weir of the Yoshino River, which began to be built in the Edo period (1603-1868), called “Oseki”

The figs are grown and harvested by themself so it is very unconventional confectionary.

The shape looks like a wooden boat, i.e., Japanese boat.

Awa Wasanbon sugar  is used for the outer dough. The size is small but luxurious specification. It also contains pistachios and walnuts.  This is filled with fruits and nuts.

The sponge cake crust easily get loose and it tastes mild sweetness of the sugar and it enhances the tastes of figs inside. The pistachios and walnuts also give the cake a crunchy texture.  It is a delicious fruitcake.
