“Karintō manju” made by Marukyu Bussan, a manufacturer of souvenir sweets mainly in Gunma Prefecture, is a manju with sweet bean paste wrapped in brown sugar-based karintō dough.
In the Kanto region, “karintō” is often soft and is often used as the dough for manju.
It looks lumpy, but the texture of the manju dough is moist.
When cracked open, the manju dough made with brown sugar looks fluffy and delicious, just like bread. The sweet bean paste inside also has a fine texture.
The dough on the karintō has a firm brown sugar sweetness and a moist, soft texture. The koshi-an is also not too sweet and has a refreshing taste. It was a manju that reminded me of Kanto’s karintō culture.
