Aoi-Kintsuba
Japanese notation "葵きんつば"
The “Aoi-Kintsuba” made by Nisshodo, a long-established Japanese confectionery established in 1937 in Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture, is a kintsuba that is presented to Nikkō Tōshō-gū, a gift from Nikko Toshogu, which is a very appreciated endorsement.
The design is a prestigious one, with the Tokugawa family crest, “Mitsuba-Aoi“, in gold on a black background of Japanese paper.
It looks like a round white manju. It has a pressed mold in the shape of a three-leaf hollyhock.
The inside is filled with sesame bean paste. It is called “Kintsuba” but it is also like a thin-skinned manju.
The fragrant sesame bean paste and the dough with sakekasu (sake lees) go well together. It is a moist and elegant confectionery.
