Kuri-kinton
Japanese notation "栗きんとん (新杵堂)"
Nakatsugawa in Gifu Prefecture is famous as the birthplace of “Kuri-kinton” and is home to many famous stores. This time, I bought some Kuri-kinton from one such famous store “Shinkine-dō”.
Chestnuts and sugar are the only ingredients used to make the extremely simple Kuri-kinton, which is handmade one by one using traditional methods.
The wrapping paper has a “kine(mallet)” mark on it. The “kine” is part of the origin of the “Shinkine-dō” name.
It is in the shape of old-fashioned chestnut kinton, with the shape squeezed out of a cloth.
Made with carefully selected domestic chestnuts and using the same production method that has remained unchanged for more than 70 years since the company’s establishment, chestnut kinton is a simple confectionary that cannot be cheated.
The deep sweetness of the chestnuts’ original flavor, which directly utilizes the taste of the ingredients, spreads out. It is a simple yet traditional taste that you will never get tired of.
