Kanazawa-monaka

Traditional monaka with a view of Kenrokuen Garden

“Kanazawa-monaka”, a Wafer cake filled with pasted azuki bean jam, made by Nakazaki Seikashi Ten, a confectionery locates in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. Nakazaki Seikashi Ten was established 80 years ago and has continued to produce traditional Japanese confections in Kanazawa, where is a famous area for making confections throughout Japan.

The Kanazawa-monaka introduced here is a traditional wafer cake that seems to obey the right way to go. The black letters on the red tag on the package is giving very powerful impression.

In the center of the wafer cake, Kanazawa’s Kenroku-en, a famous public garden park, is depicted. That is one of three most beautiful gardens in Japan, and is one of Kanazawa’s most famous landmarks.

There includes lots of pasted azuki (red) beans jam and they are glossy and rich.

It tastes very elegant sweet pasted red beans.  I can see the maker’s pride and the artisan spirit because of such delicate texture on wafer cake as well as the pasted beans and their high quality.  I believe that the maker elaborated to completing this sweet and can see their commitment as a long-established confectionery.
