Kamakura-Custar
Japanese notation "かまくらカスター"
“Kamakura New-German” in Kamakura City, Kanagawa Prefecture, has been selling its signature product, the “Kamakura Custer” a round cake made of fluffy sponge cake and filled with custard cream since 1982.
It seems to have been named “Kamakura-Custar” because it is made in Kamakura and custard cream is the main ingredient, but I feel that it is a catchy name with a nice sound.
Upon opening the package, a domed sponge cake appears. The dough was baked golden brown all over, but very moist to the touch. It was sold refrigerated at the store.
A generous amount of custard cream inside an airy sponge cake. The freshness of the custard cream is evident from its appearance.
The shelf life is only 5 days from the date of manufacture, but the texture definitely shows that it is fresh and delicious.
The custard cream is not too sweet and has a fine taste. With a price of 162 yen for this quality, it is no wonder it has become so popular. The texture of the sponge cake is light, and the custard cream is elegant and light, so I could eat as many as I wanted.
