Fuwatto-Yakiman
Japanese notation "ふわっと焼きまん (銀座 鹿乃子)"
“Kanoko” in Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, is a very popular confectionery shop whose signature products “Kanoko” and “Anmitsu” are very popular, but the main store was regrettably closed in 2020. Many people must have been saddened by the closure of the main shop, as it was founded in 1946, right after the end of World War II, and had been a longtime favorite sweet shop in Ginza along with the development of the Showa period.
However, the main store is gone, but you can still purchase online. This time, I will have the “Fuwatto-Yakiman” here.
The shape looks like a manju, but the dough has a bread-like texture.
Inside is a light red bean paste. The dough’s western-like appearance seems to be due to the use of almond powder, which gives the fluffy bread dough an aromatic quality.
The sweets from a store that has been a longtime favorite in Ginza were of quintessential quality.
