Beni-imo Tart

Amazingly popular Okinawan souvenir, stable and delicious!

The “Beni-imo Tart” which boasts overwhelming fame and popularity as an Okinawan souvenir, is a well-known signature product of Okashi-Goden. It is said that this confectionery was created around 1986, but now it is said to sell more than 10 million units a year, making it one of Okinawa’s most popular mega-hit souvenirs.

The paste is made from Okinawan Red sweet potatoes, and the bean paste is a bright purple color, but what is a bit surprising is that no preservatives or coloring agents are used, and the paste is made from natural ingredients as is.

I was surprised to see such vivid colors, and felt the wonder of nature. Incidentally, in Okinawa, the word “sweet potato” generally refers to “Beni-imo” (Red sweet potato).

Contrary to the impact of the color of the Beni-imo paste, it has a natural sweetness and a rustic taste. The tart with a hint of buttery flavor and the soft taste of the Beni-imo are also distinctive. It is a definite Okinawan staple.
