Fuhonsen Senbei
Japanese notation "富本銭煎餅"
I bought a “Fuhonsen Senbei” made by Asuka, a brand from Asuka Village in Nara Prefecture. “Fuhonsen” are coins estimated to have been made in Japan around 683, and about 40 of them were excavated and discovered at the Asuka-ike site in Nara Prefecture in 1998.
It is believed to be older than the Wadokaichin coins issued in 708.
Individually wrapped packages of 5 sheets.
This rice cracker clearly represents the “Fuhonsen”. The crispy rice crackers are baked using Hinohikari rice flour, glutinous rice flour, and black rice flour produced in Asuka Village.
The texture is crunchy and chewy. The texture of the rice flour or the rough texture of the rice cracker dough is good. It is a thin rice cracker, but the sweetness of honey and the firmness of the ingredients make even one piece of the rice cracker worth eating. It is a perfect souvenir for those who visit Asukaike Ruins.
