I bought a “Piyopiyo Monaka” made by Hiyoko Corporation, which produces “Meika Hiyoko” (famous confectionery). The name may sound cute, but it is a genuine monaka.
As you can see, there are two chicks in the box with their backs to each other.
Mmm, they are cute. The pair consists of two types of monaka: regular and white monaka dough.
The two are arranged in a cute “piyo piyo” fashion, both facing this way. Check out the filling.
The regular monaka dough contains sesame bean paste, while the white monaka dough contains matcha bean paste.
The sesame bean paste is savory, and the green tea bean paste has a strong green tea flavor with a hint of bitterness. Despite its cute chick shape, it is a genuine “monaka” . As expected of a Japanese confectionery shop with a long history. It is an interesting monaka that would make a great souvenir.
