Kuri-sanga
Japanese notation "栗山家"
I bought “Kuri-sanga” from “Kanou Shoujuan,” a Japanese confectionery store that now operates on a nationwide scale. Kano Shoujuan is a Japanese confectionery founded in 1958 in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture.
Wrapped in a Japanese paper purse-like package is what appears to be a yokan-type confectionery. This package is quite ingenious and can be opened without getting your hands dirty.
When the package was opened, what came out was a chestnut yokan-like pastry.
The color is light and transparent for yokan, and the chestnuts inside are so beautifully transparent. It feels plump and elastic.
Very chewy rice cake-like texture, like warabi mochi. There are whole chestnuts inside.
It was like a chestnut candy wrapped in a refreshingly sweet and chewy warabi-mochi, with a new texture and a new taste sensation. As expected of an up-and-coming Japanese confectioner, I felt that they were proposing a new style of confectionery.
