Daijoubudā-manju
Japanese notation "だいじょうぶだァ饅頭"
The “Daijoubudā-manju” made by “Mochiman” in Higashimurayama City, Tokyo, is a manju named after a famous gag by “Shimura Ken” a native of Higashimurayama City. It is a surprise that such a manju with such a name exists.”Daijoubudā” means “It’s all right.”
The fact that it is labeled “Higashimurayama’s specialty” and written as “Daijoubudā-manju” conveys Shimura Ken’s love for his hometown and the fact that there are many local people who support it.
The manjuu has a firm, voluminous feel and a heavy weight.
When you peel off the film, you will find a white sake lees dough branded with “Daijoubudā”. It is thoroughly interesting, isn’t it?
The manju dough seems to be made with yams as a binding agent, making the dough moist yet firm and satisfying. It is a standard steamed manju that takes the high road, but you can feel that it was carefully made with simple ingredients.
The words “Daijobu da daa” (It’s all right) are a very important message when given as a gift. It is a gag that took the world by storm, but I felt that it is an important message nowadays.
