Sanpōroku-no-Kowari
Japanese notation "三方六の小割"
When it comes to famous confectionery shops in Hokkaido, “Ryugetsu” must not be forgotten. In recent years, “Sanbouroku” has become especially popular, but “Sanpōroku” itself has been a long-selling product for more than 50 years. The “Sanpōroku(Regular Size)” is a large-sized baumkuchen, but recently the mini-sized version, “Sanpōroku-no- Kowari” has been gaining popularity.
When you want to give out small souvenirs or to many people, the size of “Sanpōroku(Regular Size)” is too big, so it is important to have this mini size that you can easily give away.
While “Sanpōroku(Regular Size)” is 20 cm long and about 6 cm high, “Sanbouroku-no-Kowari” is a handy size (9 cm x 2.5 cm), just a little smaller than 1/2 scale.
Just like the original Sanpōroku, the mini-sized baumkuchen is wrapped in a chocolate marble pattern that resembles “birch wood”. The layers of baking and the birch-patterned chocolate are beautiful.
And it is still delicious! The secret to the moistness of this baumkuchen lies in the wheat grown in Tokachi. The wheat harvested in the Tokachi region is said to be a good sticky wheat for breads and udon noodles, but not so good for baked goods, so there was quite a lot of trial and error at the time of production.
After a little bit of research, in February 2005, they started using 100% Tokachi wheat. It is a moist and delicious baumkuchen.
