Soba-Obolo
Japanese notation "蕎麦朧(そばおぼろ)"
The “Soba Oboro” from the confectionery shop “Shunsaika Tamura”, which has its main store in Isemiya, Nagano City, Nagano Prefecture, is a delicious confectionery with a very strange texture. When I first saw the package, I couldn’t imagine what it looked like, and all I could think was, “It must be a confectionery made from buckwheat flour.
When I opened the package wrapped in Japanese paper, I found two round button-shaped candies side by side.
It is an unexpected way of packaging, but the two sweets look cute standing slightly in the furoshiki wrapping cloth. There is a slight aroma of buckwheat flour.
At a quick glance, it has the texture of a scone often eaten in England. The diameter is about one size smaller than a 10-yen coin.
The exquisite firmness, which does not fall apart when you hold it in your hand but falls apart the moment you put it in your mouth, was the result of two years of trial-and-error work. The craftsman who made this pastry was inspired by the traditional Spanish pastry “polpolone” and came up with the creation of “Soba Oboro,” which is still an amazing level of perfection.
The elegant sweetness with the aroma of buckwheat flour seems to have been perfected as a Japanese wagashi.
