Ararenko (Iburi-Gakko taste)
Japanese notation "あられんこ(いぶりがっこ風味)"
“Iburi-Gakko” is a local dish made by smoking and drying vegetables (mainly daikon radish), and has been popular in Akita Prefecture for many years. This snack is made from such “Iburi-Gakko”.
I grew up in the Tohoku region of Japan, and I remember once when I was in elementary school, this “Iburi gakko” was served at school lunch, and I thought, “What is this weird tasting pickle? I remember going to my teacher and telling her that there was a strange food mixed in, and she told me that it existed.
I never imagined that “Iburi Gakko” would taste so good when I grew up.And I never thought that “Iburi gakko” flavored snacks would appear on the market.
When opened, it contains quite a few snacks made from small grains of rice.
It is covered with a generous amount of powder, and the aroma of “Iburi Gakko” can be felt. Is it possible to recreate that unique smoked vegetable flavor in a snack?
It was possible! Rather, it is quite delicious! The flavor of “Iburi Gakko” is well reproduced, but it is also very tasty as a snack. It must have been quite a challenge to develop this powder. It really has a smoky flavor.
When I was a child, I couldn’t eat “Iburi Gakko” because I thought “What the heck is this? I couldn’t eat “Iburi Gakko” when I was a child, but now when I see it at izakaya (Japanese style pubs), I am so happy that I end up ordering it. I could never have imagined that I would finally buy and eat “Iburi Gakko” snacks in the past. I recommend it !!
