Yō-kan Pan
Japanese notation "ようかんパン"
“Yō-kan Pan” is one of the most famous local breads in Hokkaido. Various bread makers in Hokkaido make this bread, which has become a local staple, but this time I bought the twisted Yōkan bread made by Nichiryo Bakery.
You can see the characteristic of yokan bread with yokan paste on the top. It is often seen in the shape of a coppepan, but when twisted like this, it looks like a doughnut.
The twisted bread is topped with a paste of Yōkan and a slit in the middle. It looks like an “eclair”.
The inside is filled with cream and looks like a doughnut. The way it is covered with yokan and the color, many people will think it is a chocolate-covered eclair when they see this picture.
A combination of Hokkaido fresh cream and yokan paste. It sounds like a unique combination, but it tastes great in harmony. It is no wonder it continues to be loved as a standard item. It is a steadfast presence as a local bread in a style that blends Japanese and Western styles.
