Shimanto-Marron-Pie
Japanese notation "しまんとまろんぱい"
“Shimanto-Marron-Pie” made by “Confectionery Aoyagi” in Kochi City, Kochi Prefecture, is a manju made with “Shimanto chestnuts” that have grown into large, plump nuts thanks to the blessings of the Shimanto River. Shimanto chestnuts are larger than normal chestnuts, and when steamed, they have a sugar content of 19 to 20 degrees, making them sweeter than melons.
It says in English, “Made from 100% carefully selected Shimanto chestnuts grown with the blessings of the Shimanto River”. The package design is smart and impressive.
It looks like a manju shape, but the pie crust is baked in a round shape.
Inside is a filling of red bean paste with Shimanto chestnut paste. The red bean paste is not too sweet, and you can feel the sweetness of the gentle ingredients.
“Confectionery Aoyagi” is a confectionery with many famous Japanese sweets such as “Tosa Nikki” but I felt that this “Shimanto-Marron-Pie” was made with a blend of Japanese and Western sweets that conveyed the high quality of chestnuts.
