Mitsu-manju
Japanese notation "蜜饅頭"
“Mitsu-manju” is made by “Mitsu-ya”, a confectionery shop in Kure City, Hiroshima Prefecture. Kure City has long been famous as a shipbuilding town, but it is also known as a port town with a fashionable atmosphere. The sweets made by Mitsuya in Kure City also have a wonderfully designed package that conveys such an atmosphere.
I feel that it is a very good design with a somewhat retro atmosphere and vivid coloring.
The texture of the manju dough is distinctive, being fine and moist. The dough is kneaded with honey and no water is used.
The bread-like dough is filled with a Ogura-an.
The aroma and sweetness of honey can be felt in abundance. The texture is also firmer than ordinary manjuu. You can feel the fashionable atmosphere of the town of Kure with these manju.
