Yoitomake (apple flavor)

Even though it is said to be hard to eat, remains the univeral style and good taste
The “Yoitomake” produced by Mitsuboshi in Tomakomai City, Hokkaido, is a well-known their local confectionary that has been a long-seller and well-loved since its launch in 1953. The standard “Yoitomake” is made with haskap jam, and this is another line-up, filled with apple jam which recently released.
“Yoitomake” has recently been sold in a small portion cut by piece though, it used to be sold in a whole roll without cut so that it was cut by ourself with a knife. The confectionary name is said to have originated from an enthusiastic shout/call “Yoito-o-maita” for work to be done at a major paper mill there, logs of raw materials were unloaded. The shape of the confectionary is also log-shaped and the origin of the name was taken from the scenery of Tomakomai’s major industry.
As we can see in the photo, the outside of the roll cake is also coated with plenty of jam, so it is inevitable that your hands will become sticky. The cake batter is also fluffy, making it a “soft and sticky” snack, and it was often called “the hardest souvenir to eat in Japan” lol
Although “Yoitomake” has been given with with a negative impression, it is probably also a nickname that is the flip side of this delicious taste. It is a steadfast style of standard deliciousness that has been loved for a long time.
The apple flavor is also delicious. Not as sour as the Haskap, but the sweet and sour jam goes well with the roll cake batter. Even if it is not easy to eat, it is a universal taste and style of “Yoitomake”.
