Harmony of Haskap jam, cream and chocolate, a true jewel-like taste.

Whenever I think of a souvenir in Hokkaido, “Morimoto” confectionery is the name that always comes to first in my mind.  The confectionery has a long history established in 1949 in Chitose City and is famous for their bouchée such as “Yukizuru”, and Morimoto’s signature product is probably their “Haskap Jewelry”.

This long-selling confectionary has been loved since 1978, and is filled with abundant “Haskap Jam”.  It must be refrigerated, so it does not last long, but the fresh haskap jam is extremely tasty.

Incidentally, haskap is the fruit of a shrub that grows wild in cool regions such as Hokkaido, the northernmost region of Japan, and eastern Russia.  The official name is “Kuromino uguisu kagura (black-fruited bush warbler). The name sounds super cool when written in Chinese characters. The name “Haskap” comes from the Ainu language, and it is commonly called “Haskap” in Japan because it grows mainly in Hokkaido.

The square shaping biscuit is coated with chocolate around the circumference and is soft, cake-like biscuit dough filled with haskap jam and buttercream.

It is of exquisite and delicate workmanship.  It tastes sweet and sour of the jam, and butter cream and chocolate melt all together.  That is a truly jewel-like flavor. It is one of the most luxurious of Hokkaido’s souvenirs. Although it is a bit pricey, it is a recommended Hokkaido souvenir for special occasions.
