Tsuki-ire Mochi
Japanese notation "つきいれ餅"
“Tsuki-ire Mochi” is the signature product of Kinjyōdo, which has a history dating back to its establishment in 1880 in Miyazaki City, Miyazaki Prefecture. It is also famous as a representative confectionery of Miyazaki Prefecture.
There are three individually wrapped red bean and Hyuganatsu flavors in each package. The Hyuganatsu flavor is unique to Miyazaki Prefecture.
On the back of the package is the story of the birth of “Tsuki-ire Mochi”. The story goes that when Emperor Jinmu was on his way to the country of Yamato, his departure was suddenly accelerated, and the local people rushed to fill the rice cake with azuki beans and offer it to him, which was the origin of this mochi.
These are azuki mochi (left) and Hyuganatsu mochi (right). The texture was very soft to the touch, reminiscent of Habutae mochi.
And it is very soft and stretchy like freshly pounded rice cake.
The soft texture is just as good, and the subtle sweetness is exquisite. The azuki-mochi has a good flavor with the beans still in it, and the texture is simple but elegant. I felt it was a must-have souvenir from Miyazaki.
