Kanbei-Hyouroku-Mochi
Japanese notation "官兵衛兵糧餅"
I bought a “Kanbei’s Hyoei Rice Cake” made by “Iseya Honten” in Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture.” It’s called “Kanbei’s Hyokeimochi” and is a confection associated with the genius military strategist, Kanbei Kuroda, of the Warring States period.
It is a package of sweets, but it is still cool. Woooow, cool, even though it is a package of candy.
It is the Kuroda clan’s family crest “Fujiboe”. This is also cool.
It’s a very heavy rice cake. Is that sugar sprinkled on the surface? Still, it looks so sweet, I wonder if I can eat all of it. I was worried, and took a little bite of the edge.
Eh! Delicious.
Refreshing and moderately sweet, plus the rice cake is crispy and crunchy, and the sesame or grain-like ingredients inside are perfectly balanced.
It is simply delicious. There must be a reason why these sweets have been loved for so long and have a long history.
I ate it up in no time. It is indeed a candy bearing the name of a wise and reckless general. I felt like I was completely fooled.
Kanpei must be feared.
